“Organ Transplant”

Organs for transplantation are obtained from deceased donors or living donors. Deceased donors may be individuals who have suffered brain death (neurological determination of death) or circulatory death (cardiac death), and their organs are recovered for transplantation following consent from the donor or their family. Living donors can donate organs such as a kidney or part of the liver while they are alive.

Transplant surgery involves the removal of the diseased or failed organ from the recipient and the implantation of the donated organ. The surgical procedure can be complex and may require extensive preparation and coordination among surgical teams, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Organ transplantation carries risks and potential complications, including rejection of the transplanted organ, infections, side effects of immunosuppressive medications, surgical complications, and recurrence of underlying disease. Close monitoring and prompt intervention are essential to address any complications that arise.
